Romanian Trip in November 2018
This year, the members of the STUDY HELP committee; Marc Elsen as Treasurer, Antoine Stoltz as Secretary, Louis Philip as Vice President and lastly Jos Sales as President of STUDY HELP; visited Romania in the month of November and stayed from the 22nd to the 26th. They started their visit in Bucharest where they stayed for 2 days before driving to Brasov. Their last stop was in Odorheiu where they went to see the Foyer St. Iosif. M. Catalin ALBU, the local representative for STUDY HELP in Romania, accompanied them during the whole visit.
- The committee first went to see the students which are already being sponsored and are living in the apartment provided by STUDY HELP.
- 3 new students signed their contract with STUDY HELP
- Visit of ‘Day Center’. After school, children can come to this facility to enjoy a daily meal. They also have the opportunity to get further educational assistance in the Day Center, who provides a teacher to help them with homework.
STUDY HELP and the sisters signed a new contract this year, which secures all the meals and fully covers the expenses of the children’s teacher for the next 3 years.
- 5 new students signed their contract with STUDY HELP
- The members of STUDY HELP spent a lovely dinner with all the current and former students in Brasov, they were 55 people in total.
The evening was a great opportunity to have an exchange with the students about how their studies are proceeding and what they are planning on doing afterwards.
Odorheiu, Foyer St. Iosif:
- The committee was warmly welcomed by all the sisters and students.
- Guided visit of the home
- There are 20 new students in their last year preparing for the exam, who will need sponsors to continue their studies next year.
It will be a big challenge to find as many sponsors, but STUDY HELP promises to do everything they can to help as many students as possible.
The 20 students are currently under psychological guidance with Mrs Mihaela TIRON to help them choose their future studies.
After sharing several interesting and beautiful moments with the students and sisters in Romania, the committee’s motivation is even greater to continue helping and facing every challenge that may come their way. They are already looking forward to their next visit.

During our visit in Romania this June, we had the chance to meet the new students entering the Study-Help program in autumn. We also got to talk to Sister Emilia and the guidance counsellor as well as our local intermediary.
Since already two years the young students can benefit from a psychological career counsellor, this in order to get academic guidance and to discover their personal educational and social skills.
From 6 to 10 November 2015 a delegation of Study-Help asbl, Messrs Jos Sales and Louis Philippe, visited Romania with a delegation of six representatives of the Luxembourg Round Table. A highlight was the inauguration of our project “Day Center” for 15 needy children in the presence of a representative of the Archbishop of Bucharest and the Bucharest Roundtable. The project was made possible by the contribution of the organization "Duck Race" in 2015 and the donations from the Rotary Luxembourg Vallées, Mr Paul Weirig and the Noesen-Mamer Family.
A dinner with the Bucharest students and the Luxembourg and Romania tablers allowed the exchange of student and professional experiences.
After Bucharest, the delegation of Study-Help travelled to Brasov and has also met a large number of students receiving a grant from the association Study-Help program. As in the past Mr Catalin Albu, our local intermediary accompanied the delegation of Study-Help during that trip.
Mr Catalin Albu informed us of the results of the students and gave us the certificates received from our protégés.
4 new students signed their sponsorship agreement in 2015. A student graduated with success this summer.
During the visit the St Iosif house at Odorheiu, the delegation of Study-Help met Sister Emilia who informed them of the social situation. This house currently provides housing and education for 150 children of all ages being either orphans or children from very disadvantaged backgrounds. The delegation also held initial discussions with the new students who want to continue their education. Since this year Study-Help requested the support of a psychologist to guide and orient the future students. This support was highly appreciated by the new students who began their studies this fall.
Study-Help association is very proud to support 41 students for the year 2015/2016.
To see is better than a written report!
As part of our project, a delegation of Study-Help asbl visited Romania from 10 to 13 October 2014. Among the planned activities, Messrs Marc Elsen, Louis Philippe, Antoine Stoltz and Jos Sales met a large number of students receiving a grant by the Study-Help asbl program in Bucharest and also in Brasov. As already last year Mr Catalin Albu, our intermediary, accompanied the delegation of Study-Help asbl during this journey. In the meetings with the students an intense exchange of experiences about their followed studies as well as their acquired experiences and their visions happened.
Catalin Albu told us the results of the students and transmitted the certificates received from our protégés to the delegation of Study-Help asbl.
When visiting the Home St Iosif in Odorheiu, the delegation of Study-Help met Sister Emilia who informed them of the social situation. This Home welcomes and educates currently 150 children of all ages, either orphans or children with very unprivileged backgrounds. Acting for years as mother of a big family, she stays in close contact with all the students even if they have quit the Home a long time ago.
Under the presence of a large number of older students from Foyer St Iosif, nine young people signed their contracts with Study-Help to ensure assistance so that they could began their studies this autumn. It was remarkable for us to witness such solidarity among all the students. The older students are helping newcomers to better fit in and find their way into this whole new stage of life.
Study-Help asbl is very proud to support 39 students from the academic year 2014/2015 on. Three of our first students ended their Bachelor's degree successfully this year and two have chosen to continue with a Master's degree.
